Qidong You is a Professor of Medicinal Chemistry in the School of Pharmacy at China Pharmaceutical University, Nanjing, serving in this role since 1994. He concurrently directs the Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Drug Design and Optimization. His educational qualifications comprise a B.S. in Medicinal Chemistry from Nanjing College of Pharmacy, the predecessor of China Pharmaceutical University, in 1982; an M.S. in Medicinal Chemistry from Shanghai Institute of Pharmaceutical Industry in 1985; and a Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry from the same institution in 1989. Throughout his career at China Pharmaceutical University, he advanced from Associate Professor of Medicinal Chemistry (1990-1994) to Associate Dean of the School of Pharmacy (1995-2009) and Dean (2009-2015). He also held a Senior Visiting Scholar position at the University of Strathclyde, United Kingdom, from 1994 to 1995.
Professor You's research specializations include drug design and synthesis, action mechanisms of drug molecules, and new drug research and development. His work emphasizes structure-activity relationships, structural modification, simplification, and optimization of natural products and their derivatives; as well as discovery and development of bioactive compounds targeting protein structures and functions, encompassing protein-protein interactions, protein degradation, and novel cancer drug design. He has edited prominent books such as Chiral Drugs: Chemistry and Biological Action (John Wiley & Sons, 2011), Research and Evaluation of Chiral Drugs (Chemical Industry Press, 2011), and Medicinal Chemistry, 3rd edition (Chemical Industry Press, 2015). Key publications feature "Palladium(II)-Catalyzed C-H Bond Activation/C-C Coupling/Intramolecular Tsuji-Trost Reaction Cascade: Facile Access to 2H-Pyranonaphthoquinones" (Organic Letters, 2015), "Structure-Activity and Structure-Property Relationship and Exploratory in vivo Evaluation of the Nanomolar Keap1-Nrf2 Protein-Protein Interaction Inhibitor" (Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, 2015), "Discovery and Modification of in vivo active Nrf2 Activators with 1,2,4-oxadiazole Core" (Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, 2015), and "CPUY201112, a novel synthetic small-molecule compound and inhibitor of heat shock protein Hsp90, induces p53-mediated apoptosis in MCF-7 cells" (Scientific Reports, 2016). Professor You has received major awards including the Henry Fok Outstanding Young Teachers Award (1994), Wu Jieping-Paul Janssen Award in Medicine & Pharmacy (2013), First Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress of Jiangsu Province (2016), Second Prizes for Scientific and Technological Progress of Jiangsu Province (2007, 2012), and Second Prizes for National Teaching Achievement Award (2009, 2014).
