About Quentin

Associate Professor Quentin Fogg serves as Associate Professor in Clinical Anatomy in the Department of Anatomy and Physiology, School of Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences at the University of Melbourne. He holds a BSc (Hons) and PhD in Clinical Anatomy from the University of Adelaide. With over 20 years of experience teaching anatomy in Australia, North America, and the United Kingdom, Fogg previously held the position of Associate Professor at the University of Glasgow's Laboratory of Human Anatomy from December 2007 to January 2015. He heads the Surgical Anatomy Laboratory and the Melbourne Academy of Surgical Anatomy, where he coordinates the Surgical Anatomy subject and leads the Graduate Diploma in Surgical Anatomy program for clinicians.

The Fogg Lab specializes in clinical anatomy of human limbs, with a particular focus on distal regions such as hands and feet, utilizing advanced techniques including dissection, 3D digitization and modeling, medical imaging, macrosectioning, and histology. The lab collaborates with clinicians nationally and internationally to deliver precise anatomical data addressing surgical challenges and improving patient outcomes. Key publications include his editorship of the 'Lungs and Pleura' chapter in the 42nd edition of Gray's Anatomy: The Anatomical Basis of Clinical Practice (2020), the only contribution by an Australian anatomist; co-authorship of A Companion Guide to Last’s Anatomy (2021); and highly cited works such as 'Forced disruption of anatomy education in Australia and New Zealand: An acute response to the Covid-19 pandemic' (2020, 606 citations), 'Distal biceps tendon anatomy: a cadaveric study' (2007, 291 citations), 'Challenges in creating dissectible anatomical 3D prints for surgical teaching' (2019, 73 citations), and 'Thermoregulation Not Just Camouflage. The Unique Vasculature of Giraffe Patches: A Cadaver Injection Study with Clinical Implications' (2023). Fogg has received the Clinical Anatomy Senior Faculty Research Award from the American Association of Clinical Anatomists for presentations on wrist anatomy (2023) and radiocarpal ligaments (2019). He served as President of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Clinical Anatomists from 2021 to 2022.
