Dr Rachael Taylor serves as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the School of Medicine and Public Health within the College of Health, Medicine and Wellbeing at the University of Newcastle, Australia. She is also a Research Academic in the Diabetes Alliance Program Plus and is recognized as a mid-career researcher and Accredited Practising Dietitian. Taylor holds a Doctor of Philosophy and a Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics, both from the University of Newcastle. Her research focuses on nutritional epidemiology, clinical nutrition, preventative health care, and endocrinology, emphasizing diet quality, maternal and infant nutrition, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, coeliac disease, nutrition and dietetics, and interventions for chronic conditions. She speaks English as her mother tongue.
Taylor's professional appointments include her current Postdoctoral Research Associate role since October 2020 and a prior Postdoctoral Researcher position in the School of Health Sciences, College of Health, Medicine and Wellbeing, and the Hunter Medical Research Institute Food and Nutrition Research Program since July 2018. She has received the Leadership Excellence Award from the Hunter Medical Research Institute-Food and Nutrition Research Program in 2024 and the International Society of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity Young Adult SIG Best Publication Award in 2021. Key publications include 'Second international consensus report on gaps and opportunities for the clinical translation of precision diabetes medicine' (2023), 'Maternal exposures and the infant gut microbiome: a systematic review with meta-analysis' (2021), 'Effects of nutritional interventions during pregnancy on infant and child cognitive outcomes: a systematic review and meta-analysis' (2017), 'Diet quality and cardiovascular outcomes: A systematic review and meta-analysis of cohort studies' (2024), 'Effective interventions in preventing gestational diabetes mellitus: A systematic review and meta-analysis' (2024), 'Nutrients for Money: The Relationship between Portion Size, Nutrient Density and Consumer Choices' (2020), and 'An Umbrella Review of Barriers and Facilitators to Medical Nutrition Therapy in Primary Healthcare for People with Diabetes' (2026). Her PhD investigated early-life nutrition and child cognitive and behavioural outcomes.
