About Ragavendra

Ragavendra Baliga, MBBS, MD, MBA, FACC, FRCP, is Professor of Internal Medicine and Cardiology and Inaugural Director of the Cardio-Oncology Center of Excellence at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. He earned his MBBS from St. John’s Medical College, Bangalore University, India in 1984, followed by a post-doctoral MD in General Medicine from Bangalore University in 1988, and an MBA from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 2004. His comprehensive training encompasses residencies and fellowships in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease at institutions including Bangalore Medical College, Hammersmith Hospital in London, St. Mary’s Hospital Medical School, Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Boston University Medical Center, and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.

Dr. Baliga's distinguished career includes serving as Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine and Attending Cardiologist at the University of Michigan Medical School from 1999 to 2005, Chief and Director of Cardiovascular Medicine at University Hospitals East in Columbus from 2005 to 2008, and his current roles at The Ohio State University since 2005. Board-certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, and Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology, his clinical interests focus on cardio-oncology and heart failure. He holds prominent editorial positions as editor-in-chief of Heart Failure Clinics of North America and the textbook Practical Cardiology, CME editor for the American College of Cardiology, and section editor for the Journal of the American College of Cardiology–Cardiovascular Imaging and Cardiosource Review Journal. Notable publications include editorships of Practical Cardiology: Evaluation and Treatment of Common Cardiovascular Disorders (2nd edition, 2008), Cardiac Resynchronization in Heart Failure (2009), and recent articles such as 'Shifting the Epigenetic and Multi-Omic Frontier to Get the Heart in Top Gear' (2026) and 'Sodium or potassium, and chloride or bicarbonate: which combination is worth its salt?' (2026). His research interests encompass heart failure, cardiomyopathy, hypertension, atherosclerosis, and angina. Dr. Baliga has received the American College of Cardiology Gifted Educator Award (2017), OSU College of Medicine LSI Preceptor of the Year (2021), Albert Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award (2021), top 10 percent national patient satisfaction rating (2014), and Castle Connolly Regional Top Doctor recognition.
