Rahul Shome is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Computing at the Australian National University. He is a roboticist conducting research in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence. Shome earned his Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Computer Science from Rutgers University, advised by Professor Kostas E. Bekris. Prior to his appointment at ANU, he worked as a postdoctoral research associate and Fellow of the Rice Academy at Rice University with Professor Lydia E. Kavraki.
Shome's research centers on planning algorithms that enable robots to solve complex problems intelligently. He has authored a chapter in the Encyclopedia of Robotics along with multiple peer-reviewed journal articles and refereed conference publications in AI and robotics venues. His contributions have been recognized with a best paper award at IEEE MRS and a nomination for the best paper in automation award at IEEE ICRA. Shome has served in editorial and organizational roles at major conferences and journals including ICRA, IROS, RSS, and RA-L. He is also an Affiliate Investigator at the Humanising Machine Intelligence initiative at ANU and previously held the position of Associate Editor for IEEE ICRA 2024.
