About Ram

Ram Pandit is an Associate Professor in the UWA School of Agriculture and Environment at the University of Western Australia, with an additional affiliation to the School of Biological Sciences. He holds a BSc in Forestry Sciences from Tribhuvan University in Nepal, an MS in Forest Resources Management from the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry, and MS degrees in Economics and in Probability and Statistics along with a PhD in Applied Economics from Auburn University. Prior to joining UWA in 2009, he worked as a Forest Officer in Nepal’s Department of Forests, as an Agro-ecological Research Site Coordinator at the Lumle Agricultural Research Centre, and as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Auburn University.

His research focuses on environmental economics, natural resource economics, biodiversity economics and finance, ecosystem services valuation, payment for ecosystem services, natural capital accounting, impact evaluation of conservation policies, forest economics and policy, urban forestry, and threatened species valuation. Pandit has held roles including Research Director of Biodiversity Economics and Finance at the Western Australian Biodiversity Science Institute and multiple positions with the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services, such as Coordinating Lead Author for the Second Global Assessment of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services. He teaches courses including Environmental and Resource Economics and Economic Development in Theory and Practice.
