Kessler's influence in the legal field is marked by leadership roles such as Chair of the Family Law Sections of the American Bar Association and the State Bar of Georgia for 2011-2012, former Chair of the ABA Family Law Section's Family Courts Committee, and service on the ABA Family Law Section Council.
