Dr. Charles Raymond Sarimuthu serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering within the School of Engineering at Monash University Malaysia. He holds a B.Eng. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Malaya (2006), an M.Eng. degree in Electrical Energy and Power Systems from the University of Malaya (2010), and a Ph.D. in electrical power engineering from Universiti Tenaga Nasional, Malaysia (2019). Before entering academia, he worked as an electrical engineer at a multinational electronic manufacturing company. From 2010, he has been involved in electrical and electronics engineering programs at several institutions, including AIMST University, Nilai University, Kuala Lumpur Metropolitan University College, and Taylor’s University. He joined Monash University Malaysia in 2018 and has extensive experience supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students, currently accepting PhD candidates interested in future power networks.
His research specializations include voltage control, power transformers, distribution networks, distributed generation, renewable energy integration, smart grids, power systems, and power quality. Notable publications comprise "Low-cost dual-factor programmable circuit breaker for demand-response load management in industrial microgrids" (Electric Power Systems Research, 2026), "A Novel Meta-Learning-Based Reinforcement Controller for Voltage Regulation of an Interleaved Boost Converter in Solar Photovoltaic Systems" (IET Renewable Power Generation, 2025), "A game theory approach for OLTC voltage control operation in an active distribution network" (Electric Power Systems Research, 2023), and "Grid integration of solar power system using synchronverter-based energy storage system" (Applied Solar Energy, 2022). Dr. Sarimuthu leads research projects such as Smart Watering to Promote Effective Urban Agriculture (2025-2027) and Electric Field Imaging Sensor for Comprehensive Static Charge Analysis (2024-2026). He teaches units including ECE3051 Electrical Energy Systems, ECE4053 Power System Analysis, and ECE4886 Smart Grids. Additionally, he reviews for IET Generation, Transmission & Distribution and holds memberships in the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM), Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM), Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), and IEEE.
