About Reeva

Professor Reeva Lederman is a Professor in the School of Computing and Information Systems within the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology at the University of Melbourne, where she has served as a faculty member since 2000. She obtained her PhD from the University of Melbourne in 2008, with a thesis entitled "Understanding How Routine Manual Information System Work," which applied theories from routine activity theory and information systems research to analyze routine manual information system tasks. Her primary research interest is Health Information Systems, positioned at the intersection of health science and information science. Lederman's research encompasses digital mental health interventions, moderated online social therapy platforms, digital therapeutic alliances in fully automated mental health smartphone apps, trust formation in online health communities, technostress and techno-overload in remote work environments, and ethical issues in AI applications for healthcare.

Lederman has advanced the field through key publications in prominent journals. Among her notable works are "Moderated Online Social Therapy: Designing and Evaluating Technology for Mental Health" in ACM Transactions on Computer-Human Interaction, "How Trust Is Formed in Online Health Communities: A Process Perspective" in Communications of the Association for Information Systems (2014), "Why are we waiting? How poor information systems increase emergency department length of stay" in Health Informatics Journal (2002), and "Managing hospital databases: can large hospitals really protect patient data?" in Health Informatics Journal (2005). She has contributed to major projects including the HORYZONS randomized controlled trial of online social therapy for early psychosis relapse prevention and initiatives using AI and smartphone sensors to personalize mental health therapy delivery. Lederman leads Information Systems research groups focused on computational bioinformatics and health information systems, influencing digital health tool design, mental healthcare delivery, and technology trust. She has also shared insights through university platforms on topics like digital therapeutics and technostress.
