About Renata

Dr. Renata Casado is a Lecturer in the Management and Organisations department within the UWA Business School at the University of Western Australia. She earned her PhD in Management and Organisations from the University of Western Australia in 2017, with a thesis titled "From 'opportunity' to 'insecurity': The psychological contract of highly skilled immigrants in Western Australia." Additionally, she holds a Master of Science by Research Degree in Organisational Studies from the Universidade Federal do Estado do Rio de Janeiro in 2008 and an MBA in Marketing from IBMEC in 2007. Before pursuing academia full-time, Dr. Casado gained over 15 years of professional experience as a manager and consultant in corporate marketing and human resource management. Her teaching portfolio includes coordinating the Master of Human Resources and Employment Relations program and delivering units such as EMPL3208 Managing Diversity at undergraduate level, and EMPL5412 Employment Relations, HRMT5518 Strategic Human Resource Management, HRMT5501 Diversity & Inclusion, and HRMT5530 Career Development & Employability at postgraduate level.

Dr. Casado's research focuses on labour migration in Australia, Brazilian migration and ethnic entrepreneurship, psychological contract, career sustainability, and the efficacy of domestic violence leave policies. She is Principal Investigator on the project "Preventing Gendered Violence: Evaluating the Awareness, Access and Efficacy of Family and Domestic Violence Leave," funded by the Western Australian Department of Communities from 2025 to 2026. Notable publications include "Problematising ‘visa determinism’: Contested and multifaceted migratory identities among student visa holders in Australia" (Journal of Sociology, 2026, with R. Azeredo), "Beyond green promises: sustainability and the limits of employer attraction for Gen Z in tourism and hospitality" (Journal of Sustainable Tourism, 2026, with B. Hube and D. Olaru), "Efficacy of Paid Family and Domestic Violence Leave in Australia: A review of the effectiveness of paid family and domestic violence leave entitlement since its implementation as a National Employment Standard in Australia" (report, 2025, with K. Dayaram and M. Gavin), and "A crisis-induced bricolage policy in Australia: ethical contradictions in policymaking in times of crisis" (Journal of Social Policy, 2026, with D. Caspersz et al.). Her scholarship has garnered over 100 citations. Dr. Casado received the UWA Business School Excellence in Teaching Award in 2025, Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning in 2024, UWA Business School Responsible Business Fellow designation in 2024, and the Heneman Postgraduate Research Prize in Industrial Relations in 2017. She serves as Treasurer of the Association of Industrial Relations Academics of Australia and New Zealand from 2026 and Representative-at-Large for the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Division of the Academy of Management from 2025. She also reviews for Labour & Industry: A Journal of the Social and Economic Relations of Work.
