Professor Renato Nazzini KC (Hon) is Professor of Law and Director of the Centre of Construction Law and Dispute Resolution at King's College London, a position he has held since joining the institution in 2012. He holds doctorates from the University of London and the University of Milan. Previously, he served as Professor of Competition Law and Arbitration at the University of Southampton. Before academia, Nazzini was Deputy Director of the Legal and Policy Department at the Office of Fair Trading, the UK's former competition authority, where he led or advised on major enforcement and policy initiatives. These included the review of abuse of dominance policy under Article 102 TFEU, resulting in the European Commission's 2008 Guidance Paper, and the development of policy on actions for damages for competition infringements, influencing reforms in the UK and EU. A dually qualified English solicitor and Italian advocate, he practices as an arbitrator, counsel, and expert witness in international disputes across sectors including construction, oil and gas, infrastructure, IT, pharmaceuticals, and consumer goods. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, a member of the ICC Arbitration and ADR Commission (Italy), and participates in ICC task forces on corruption in arbitration and arbitrating competition law issues. Nazzini also serves as a non-governmental adviser to the International Competition Network, contributing to its Unilateral Conduct and Merger Working Groups.
Nazzini's research interests encompass competition law enforcement, remedies, and procedure; international commercial arbitration and alternative dispute resolution, particularly in construction; the digital economy; and intersections between intellectual property, regulation, and competition. He has authored eight books, including Competition Enforcement and Procedure (Oxford University Press, 2016), The Foundations of European Union Competition Law: The Objective and Principles of Article 102 (OUP, 2011), and Concurrent Proceedings in Competition Law: Procedure, Evidence and Remedies (OUP, 2004), alongside over eighty articles and book chapters. Recent works include the 2024 reports Construction Adjudication in the United Kingdom: Tracing Trends and Guiding Reform (with A. Godhe) and 2024 Dispute Boards International Survey (with R. Macedo Moreira). He is general co-editor of the Global Competition Litigation Review and a member of the editorial board of the European Business Law Review. In January 2025, he was appointed Honorary King's Counsel. Nazzini has been Visiting Professor at the University of Turin, University of Zurich, and FGV São Paulo, and is an Honorary Fellow of the British Institute of International and Comparative Law.
