Rhoberta Haley, PhD, RN, FNP, serves as Dean and Professor in the School of Nursing at Pacific Lutheran University, assuming the role on February 1, 2024. With over four decades of experience as a nurse, family nurse practitioner, nursing educator, and academic administrator, she has taught at all levels of nursing education. Previously, Haley was Dean of the School of Nursing and Health Professions at Chaminade University of Honolulu from May 2019 to 2024, where she focused on social justice, serving underrepresented communities, expanding programs, enhancing simulation centers, and experiential learning. Her career encompasses leadership roles including assistant dean at the Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science at the University of San Diego, as well as director, chief academic officer, and campus president at institutions across California, Nevada, Illinois, Indiana, and Arizona. Haley has expertise in grant-funded projects and a commitment to inclusive excellence.
Haley earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from California State University, Sacramento, Master of Nursing (family nurse practitioner) from the University of California, Los Angeles, and PhD in Nursing from the University of San Diego. A leader in nursing education, she serves on the Board of Directors of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), elected in 2023 while at Chaminade and re-elected in 2024 for a two-year term. She contributes to AACN's Governance and Program Committees. Her work addresses social determinants of economic inequality, health disparities, equity in healthcare, and broader educational access to prepare nurses for advanced roles. At PLU, she leads programs at bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels, plus continuing education, promoting health and well-being through inquiry, service, leadership, and care, while fostering equity, inclusion, and belonging.
