Professor Rhonda Clifford serves as Dean of the School of Health and Clinical Sciences and Professor in the Pharmacy discipline at The University of Western Australia, within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. She holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy with Distinction, Graduate Diploma in Pharmacy with Distinction, PhD, and Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy. Prior to her current positions, she was Director of Pharmacy in the School of Medicine and Pharmacology at UWA. In external roles, she has chaired the Accreditation Committee of the Australian Pharmacy Council since April 2025 and served as a Board Director from October 2016 to October 2025.
Her research specializations encompass asthma, diabetes, anaphylaxis, mental health, women's health, professionalism in pharmacy practice, pharmacy practice, and translational primary care research. Over the past decade, she has authored more than 90 peer-reviewed publications, attaining an h-index of 23 and 2187 citations from 101 countries across 25 subject areas. Ranked in the top 0.7% of 35,916 published authors worldwide on the topic of pharmacists, one in eight of her papers ranks in the top 10% most cited globally, with 14 papers in the top 10% for online attention. Key publications include "Patient gender and familiarity influence responses to suicide signs: an experimental vignette study of Australian pharmacists" (2026), "Developing health literacy education for tertiary-based health or social care professions students: a scoping review" (2025), "Diabetic foot disease management in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries: a scoping review protocol" (2025), "Exploring Pharmacy Technicians' Perceptions and Self-Assessed Performance of Dispensing Skills through MyDispense" (2025), and "Good Arts, Good Mental Health®: the effectiveness of an Australian health promotion media campaign in promoting community mental wellbeing via the arts" (2025). Professor Clifford has received the Lifetime Achievement Award in Pharmacy from the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (WA Branch) in 2021, Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy in 2020, recognition as one of the top ten agenda setters for the Australian pharmacy profession in 2019, and the Vice-Chancellor's Award for Research Mentorship in 2025. She has delivered over 90 presentations at national and international conferences, secured more than $12 million in research and training funding over the last ten years, supervised 18 PhD completions since 2010 with five ongoing, examined over 20 PhD theses nationally and internationally, organized and supervised dissertation projects for around 30 University of Basel Master of Pharmacy students, and overseen more than 100 Master of Pharmacy research projects since 2007. Her collaborations span institutions including the University of Basel, KU Leuven in Belgium, and the University of Bergen in Norway.
