Ricardo Sosa is an Associate Professor in Design in the Sydney School of Architecture, Design and Planning at the University of Sydney. He obtained his PhD from the University of Sydney, working at the Key Centre of Design Computing from 2000 to 2005. Ricardo has built a career spanning two decades in design practice, education, and research across three continents. Beginning with computational creativity and design cognition, he now specializes in learning and design within an education-focused role.
His research specializations include creativity, design education, indigenous epistemologies, and research methods, with interests in the future of design education and creativity in co-design. Key publications feature "On a Jansen leg with multiple gait patterns for reconfigurable walking platforms" (2015), "A computational study of creativity in design: The role of society" (2005), "Exploration of adaptive gait patterns with a reconfigurable linkage mechanism" (2013), "Design and change: A model of situated creativity" (2003), and "The complementary role of representations in design creativity: sketches and models" (2010). These works, along with others, have garnered over 1,626 citations on Google Scholar, influencing computational design, creative processes, and robotics mechanisms. Sosa teaches courses including DECO1006 Design Process and Methods and DECO2016 Design Thinking. He has received funding from the University of Sydney Strategic Education Grant and the IPA Scholarship. His service includes contributions to the DRS EdSIG on Futures of Design Education.
