Dr Ripon Kumar Chakrabortty is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Systems & Computing at UNSW Canberra, University of New South Wales. He earned his PhD in Computer Science from UNSW Canberra in 2017 with a thesis on managing uncertainties and disruptions in resource-constrained project scheduling. He also holds an MSc in Industrial and Production Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology in 2013, focusing on a decision support system for aggregate production planning, and a BSc in the same field from BUET in 2009, on supplier selection via multi-criteria decision making. Additional professional qualifications include a Diploma of Logistics from Monarch Institute in 2018 and a Certificate in ERP (SAP Supply Chain Management) from Sydney Institute of ERP in 2018. As Program Coordinator of the Master of Decision Analytics since 2020, previously for Master of Engineering Science and Master of Project Management, he excels in teaching decision analytics and systems engineering courses. He founded and leads the Decision Support and Analytics Research Group, serves as Lead of the Artificial Intelligence Community of Practice in the Australian Institute of Project Management, and is an editorial board member of multiple recognized journals.
Chakrabortty's research centers on decision analytics, applied artificial intelligence, evolutionary computation, operations research, and optimisation, with applications in global supply chain and logistics, sustainable smart scheduling, project scheduling, healthcare informatics, closed-loop supply chains, and critical mineral supply chains. He has co-authored books including Handbook of Artificial Intelligence for Smart City Development (2025), Multi-Criteria Decision Making Theory and Applications in Sustainable Healthcare (2023), and Soft Computing for Smart Environments (2023), alongside numerous journal articles such as Carbon-aware coordinated supply chain scheduling in the net-zero era (Computers & Industrial Engineering, 2026), Building resilient closed-loop supply chains (International Journal of Production Research, 2026), and A multi-source multi-layer-based transfer learning approach for forecasting customer demands (Intelligent Systems with Applications, 2025). He has secured over $5 million in Category 1 grants from ARC, Department of Defence, and others. Awards include Best Paper at IEEE IEEEM (2025, 2018), UNSW Canberra Faculty Collaboration Award (2024), Finalist in Researchers in Project Management by AIPM (2025), and BUET Gold Medal (2013).
