Dr. Robert Jack (SFHEA) is Senior Lecturer in International Business and Course Director for the Master of Management in the Department of Management, Macquarie Business School, Macquarie University. He earned a Bachelor of Arts (Social Science) from La Trobe University, a Graduate Diploma in Marketing, a Master of Marketing, and a Master of International Business from Monash University, along with a PhD from Monash University. Before entering academia, he occupied managerial roles in public and private sectors, where he developed and implemented marketing strategies, including customer management initiatives, and provided consultation and training services.
Jack's research focuses on firm internationalization, emerging market multinational enterprises, Chinese management practices, Indigenous entrepreneurship, and organizational resilience. His scholarship appears in leading journals such as International Business Review, International Journal of Human Resource Management, International Journal of Operations & Production Management, International Small Business Journal, and Journal of Business Research. Notable publications include 'Understanding the pace, scale and pattern of firm internationalization: An extension of the 'born global' concept' (International Small Business Journal, 2013), 'The nature of service characteristics and their impact on internationalization: A multiple case study of born global firms' (Journal of Business Research, 2021), 'Born Global Firm Internationalisation: The Influence of Industry Factors' (Contemporary Management Research, 2016), 'Pre and post-entry resource needs for international entrepreneurs: The role of government and industry networks' (Journal of Management & Organization, 2017), and 'Australian Indigenous Female Entrepreneurs: The Role of Adversity Quotient' (Journal of Business Research, 2024). He guest-edited a special issue of the International Journal of Human Resource Management (Volume 30, Issue 14) on the internationalization of Chinese banks and financial intermediaries and serves on the editorial and review boards of Journal of Business Research (ABDC A*) and European Journal of International Management. Jack has taught at Monash University, Swinburne University of Technology, and City University of Hong Kong, with visiting positions at Copenhagen Business School and Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. He held executive roles in the Australia and New Zealand International Business Academy, including Secretary and Treasurer (2011-2017) and Vice President-Treasurer (2017-present). His accolades include Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.
