About Robbie

Professor Robbie Goh is Provost and Professor at the Singapore University of Social Sciences. He holds a PhD from the University of Chicago (1993), an MA from the National University of Singapore (1989), and a BA Honours (First Class, Direct Honours) from the National University of Singapore (1988). Prior to his current role at SUSS, which he assumed in 2021, Professor Goh served in numerous leadership positions at the National University of Singapore, including Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (2017–2021), Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (2010–2015), Head of the Department of English Language and Literature (2004–2010), and Deputy Director of the Asia Research Institute (2008–2010). He progressed through academic ranks at NUS from Senior Tutor and Lecturer to Professor in the Department of English Language and Literature.

Professor Goh’s research focuses on Christianity in Asia, Indian Anglophone literature, Singapore studies, and related areas in postcolonial literature, semiotics, and cultural studies. He is the author of several books, including Christopher Nolan: Filmmaker and Philosopher (2022), Protestant Christianity in the Indian Diaspora (2018), and Christianity in Southeast Asia (2005). He has edited volumes such as The Politics of English in Asia (2013) and Narrating Race: Asia, (Trans)Nationalism, Social Change (2011). His awards include multiple NUS teaching excellence awards, a Fulbright Fellowship (1998), and the National Council of Social Service Long Service Award. Professor Goh has held editorial and committee roles and delivered public addresses in academic and community settings.
