Robert Healy III serves as Teaching Assistant Professor in the Media Department within Duquesne University’s McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts, joining the full-time faculty in fall 2014. He founded and has directed the Sports Information and Media major since its inception in fall 2017, personally mentoring every student enrolled in the program while actively supporting the department’s outreach initiatives to enrich student experiences. Healy holds a Master of Science in Multimedia Technology and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies with minors in Sociology and Interactive Media, both from Duquesne University. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership at Duquesne, anticipating completion in April 2026. Prior to his academic career, Healy garnered recognition in broadcasting and design, contributing to award-winning media productions.
Healy instructs a diverse array of courses, including International Media, Multiplatform Newsroom I, Media Literacy, Media and Sports, Media Project Management, Media Writing, Public Relations in Strategic Media, Sports Media Practices, Sportscasting, Sportswriting, Public Relations Campaigns, and Public Relations Strategies and Case Studies. His accolades include First Place for Color Commentary in Basketball from the Pennsylvania AP Broadcasters Association in 2011, Second Place in the same category in 2010, and Second Place for Football Color Commentary in 2009. Additionally, he received an Award of Distinction for Brochures and Catalogs from Susquehanna University Athletics and Recreation through the American Graphic Design and Advertising in 2009. Healy was inducted into the Duquesne Athletics Merle E. Gilliand Hall of Fame as a member of the 2003 NCAA FCS mid-major national championship football team and into the Baldwin High School Athletics Hall of Fame. He was selected for Pittsburgh Magazine’s 40 Under 40 Class of 2022 by Pittsburgh Magazine and PUMP. Healy has contributed chapters to multiple books on Pittsburgh sports history, such as 'Integrating Pittsburgh Sports' (spring 2023), 'Where Pittsburgh Played: Oakland's Historic Sports Venues' (August 2022), 'Pittsburgh's Civic Arena: Stories From the Igloo' (October 2021), 'Pittsburgh Sports Firsts' (March 2021), 'Three Rivers Stadium: A Confluence of Champions' (April 2020), 'Unlucky 21: The Saddest Stories and Games in Pittsburgh Sports History' (March 2019), and 'Kings on the Bluff: The Next Chapter' (October 2017). His earlier publications include 'Wrapped Around Their Fingers' in Duquesne International Media (May 2016) and several articles for Patch.com between 2011 and 2013.
