Dr. Robert Lloyd serves as Associate Professor of Management and Director of Strategic Partnerships in the Robbins College of Business and Entrepreneurship at Fort Hays State University, where he is a tenured faculty member. He earned a Doctorate of Business Administration in Management from George Fox University, a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Management from Fort Hays State University, a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish (Cum Laude), and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management (Cum Laude), both from Fort Hays State University. Prior to his academic career, Lloyd worked as Commodities Sales Manager at Koch Fertilizer in Wichita, Kansas from 2007 to 2013, managing sales strategies that generated substantial profits; as auxiliary staff at Raytheon’s McMurdo Science Research Station in Antarctica in 2005-2006; and as an outdoor adventure guide and manager at Great Alaska Adventure Lodge on the Kenai Peninsula for six summers from 2002 to 2007. Joining Fort Hays State University in 2017 as Assistant Professor, he was promoted to Associate Professor in 2022 and served as Chair of the Department of Management from 2023 to 2024. Previously, he was Associate Professor at Bethel College from 2013 to 2017, including as Interim Department Chair. Lloyd teaches undergraduate and graduate courses including Management Principles (MGT 301), Organizational Behavior (MGT 410), Business Ethics & Society (MGT 475), Human Resource Management (MGT 611), and International Business (MGT 606). He has led student travel courses to Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, and Chile.
Lloyd’s research focuses on management history, human resources, business ethics, organizational behavior, and high-performance systems. He has authored key open educational resources, including Writing the Literature Review (2023, with Matthew Vollrath and Daniel Mertens), The History of Human Resources in the United States: A Primer on Modern Practice (2021), and The Four Functions of Management: An Essential Guide to Management Principles (2020, with O.W. Aho), all published by FHSU Digital Press. Selected peer-reviewed publications include “Emerging from the chaos of Management Theory Jungle: A historical analysis of the development of the four principles of management” (2023, Journal of Management History), “Dissent in reality: Organizational dissent and change on Undercover Boss” (2023, International Journal of Business Communication), and “Human Resources as ethical gatekeepers: Hiring ethics and employee selection” (2019, Journal of Leadership, Accountability, and Ethics). His awards include the 2024 President’s Distinguished Scholar at Fort Hays State University, 2021 Southwest Academy of Management Outstanding Educator Award, 2022 Robbins College Faculty of the Year for the Department of Management, 2019 Outstanding Teaching Award, and first place in the 2018 MABDA Innovation in Business Education Competition. Lloyd has secured grants totaling over $100,000 for OER development, faculty exchanges, and educational camps; executed international articulation agreements boosting enrollment; chaired dissertation committees; and presented at conferences worldwide.
