Robert Yost, Ph.D., is a Teaching Professor in the Department of Biology at the School of Science, Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania and completed post-graduate work at the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands and the Medical College of Pennsylvania. Originally pursuing research as a post-doctoral fellow, Yost transitioned to a teaching-focused role after developing a strong passion for assisting students in mastering biological concepts and scientific inquiry.
Yost's research specializations include lipid metabolism in the lungs and the liver, stemming from his early career investigations. His academic interests have since expanded into science education, with a focus on understanding student views on diversity in the sciences and exploring effective ways to promote scientific exploration through participation in regional, state, and international science fairs. Yost actively contributes to university governance as an elected member of the University Faculty Council, representing the IU Indianapolis campus and Department of Biology. He serves on the board of the Science Education Foundation of Indiana (SEFI), provides committee service for the Indiana Science Technology Engineering and Math (I-STEM) initiative, and holds a position on the Executive Committee of the Advisory Council for the Society for Science and the Public, the parent organization of the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). Additionally, as Editor of Bioscene for the Association of College and University Biology Educators (ACUBE), Yost influences biology education at a national level through peer-reviewed publications and professional development.
