Dr. Roberta Ergle is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Teacher Education within the College of Community Innovation and Education at the University of Central Florida, focusing on English language arts education as part of the Education faculty. She holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialization in Language, Literacy, and Culture from the University of Florida (2008), an M.Ed. in English Education (1991), and a B.A. in English (1989) from the same university. Ergle joined UCF in 2003 as an Instructor and progressed to Lecturer (2012-2014), Associate Lecturer (2014-2020), and Senior Lecturer (2020-present). She developed and coordinated the UCF Ocala Elementary Education program from 2003 to 2018, serving as Program Coordinator, Internship Coordinator, and Faculty Advisor, while forging partnerships with local school districts. From 2018, she coordinated the International Internship Program for placements in Ireland and England, partnering with Mary Immaculate College to secure an Erasmus grant in 2019. Ergle has taught courses and supervised interns across UCF campuses including Orlando, Ocala, Lake Sumter, Clermont, and Daytona. Prior roles include classroom teaching in Florida public schools (1991-1999) and adjunct instruction at Central Florida Community College and Florida Southern College.
Ergle's doctoral research investigated gender differences in writing achievement among 4th, 8th, and 10th graders. Her ongoing interests encompass preservice teacher development, 21st-century instructional strategies and classroom management for virtual and traditional settings, the effects of international internships on preservice teachers' views of education, and applications of mindfulness and culturally responsive pedagogies. She has earned the UCF Teaching Incentive Program Outstanding Teaching Award (2009, 2018), High Quality Online Course Designations for EDF 4467 and EDG 6415 (2018), Graduate Faculty Scholar status (2014-present), UCF Women Faculty Excellence in Academic Partnership Award (2017), and Center for the Success of Women Faculty Recognition (2014). A key publication is “Boy Writers: Are Boys Failing or is the Test Failing Boys?” co-authored with Danling Fu in Journal of Teaching Writing (2011, Vol. 26, No. 1). Ergle has presented at national conferences including NCTE and USDLA, and internationally in Ireland, and holds FLDOE certification in clinical mentoring since 2009 and IDL certification for online courses since 2010.
