About Robyn

Robyn Ewing AM, FACE, BEd(Hons)(Sydney), PhD(Sydney), is Professor Emerita of Teacher Education and the Arts and Co-Director of the Creativity in Research, Engaging the Arts, Transforming Education, Health and Wellbeing (CREATE) Centre at the University of Sydney's Sydney School of Education and Social Work. She began her career as a primary teacher before joining the then Faculty of Education in 1989. Her PhD, awarded in 1995, examined the framing of educational knowledge through newstime in junior primary classrooms. Throughout her academic career, Ewing has focused on teacher education, the integration of the arts in education, primary curriculum, drama, children's literature, and arts-informed research methodologies. She has taught courses in curriculum, English, drama, language, and literacy, contributing significantly to pre-service teacher preparation.

Ewing's scholarly output includes influential publications such as 'The arts and Australian education: Realising potential' (2011, 576 citations), 'Reconceptualising professional experiences in pre-service teacher education… reconstructing the past to embrace the future' (2008, 552 citations), 'Teaching: Challenges and dilemmas' (2011, 342 citations), 'Language and Literacy Development in Early Childhood' (2016, co-authored), 'Transforming the curriculum through the arts' (2020, 251 citations), and 'Teaching: Dilemmas, Challenges and Opportunities' (7th edition, 2023).
