Roderick M. Rejesus is a Professor and Extension Specialist, as well as Department Extension Leader, in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics at North Carolina State University. He earned his Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2001, a Master of Science in Agricultural Economics from Clemson University in 1995, and a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics cum laude from the University of the Philippines at Los Baños in 1992. Rejesus joined North Carolina State University in 2007 as an Assistant Professor, advanced to Associate Professor from 2010 to 2017, and has served as Professor and Extension Specialist since 2017. Previously, he was an Assistant Professor at Texas Tech University from 2002 to 2007 and at the Center for Agribusiness Excellence at Tarleton State University from 2001 to 2002.
Rejesus maintains an active research and extension program in applied production economics, with emphasis on agricultural policies for risk management, including crop insurance compliance, fraud prevention, and premium rate-setting. His work also assesses economic impacts of agricultural technologies, policies, and programs in the United States and other countries, particularly regarding climate change effects, cover crops, and soil health practices. Key publications include "Greater sensitivity to drought accompanies maize yield increase in the US Midwest" (Science, 2014), "Cover Crops, Crop Insurance Losses, and Resilience to Extreme Weather Events" (American Journal of Agricultural Economics, 2024), "Economic and Policy Drivers of Climate-Smart Soil Health Practices in the United States" (Annual Review of Resource Economics, 2025), and "Adoption and economics of alternate wetting and drying water management for irrigated lowland rice" (Field Crops Research, 2015). With over 6,700 citations on Google Scholar and more than 90 refereed journal articles, his research influences agricultural policy and risk management. Rejesus has received the AAEA Agricultural Finance & Management Section Outstanding Research/Quality of Communication Award in 2025, 2023, and 2019; the AAEA Applied Risk Analysis Section Best Paper Award in 2022; the Centennial Outstanding Alumni Award from the University of the Philippines Los Baños College of Economics & Management in 2019; and served as Co-Editor of Applied Economic Perspectives and Policy (2015–2017) and Associate Editor of the American Journal of Agricultural Economics (2012–2015).
