About Rodney

Professor Rodney Sinclair is a Professorial Fellow in the Department of Medicine at the University of Melbourne and Director of Sinclair Dermatology. He holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Melbourne awarded in 1987, a Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the University of Melbourne awarded in 2004, and became a Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists (FACD) in 1995. He has served as Professor of Dermatology at the University of Melbourne since 2004.

Professor Sinclair is a world leader in clinical research on hair and skin conditions. He has co-authored the dermatology section of the Oxford Textbook of Medicine and chapters on hair disorders in Rook’s Textbook of Dermatology and Bologna’s Dermatology Essentials. He is a member of the Dermatology expert group for the Therapeutic Guidelines in Australia. With over 750 research publications, his work is highly cited, particularly in the areas of alopecia areata, androgenetic alopecia, psoriasis, eczema, vitiligo, autoimmune skin diseases, skin immunology, and hair and skin stem cell biology. He is co-founder and past president of the Australasian Society for Dermatology Research, co-founder and current president of the Australasian Hair and Wool Research Society, and past president of the Skin and Cancer Foundation of Victoria. He serves as Vice-President of the International Society of Dermatology and Executive Vice-President of the International Academy of Cosmetic Dermatology, and is an associate editor of the Australasian Journal of Dermatology. He has received honorary life membership of the American Dermatology Association, the British Association of Dermatologists, and the Ukrainian Hair Research Society.
