Prof. Dr. med. vet. Rolf Karl Schuster is a veteran expert in veterinary parasitology whose career exemplifies dedication to research and education in animal health. He commenced his academic journey by earning a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.) from the Moscow Veterinary Academy in 1980. He further advanced his qualifications with a Dr. vet. med. from the Humboldt-University of Berlin in 1984, achieving Fachtierarzt status in Parasitology in 1991, completing his habilitation (Dr. habil.) at the Free University of Berlin in 1993, receiving applied Professor designation from the Free University of Berlin in 1998, and obtaining Fachtierarzt certification in Tropical Veterinary Medicine in 2006. These credentials underscore his profound expertise in specialized veterinary fields.

Schuster's professional trajectory includes key appointments across academia and international projects. From 1980 to 1992, he served as Lecturer at the Institute for Parasitology of the Humboldt-University of Berlin. Between 1992 and 1993, he acted as Project Assistant in the German Malawi Basic Animal Health Service Project based in Mzuzu, Malawi. He progressed to Senior Lecturer at the Institute for Parasitology and Tropical Veterinary Medicine of the Free University of Berlin from 1993 to 1999, followed by a role as Guest Professor at the same institution from 1999 to 2002. From 2002 until his retirement in February 2025, Schuster worked as Parasitologist at the Central Veterinary Research Laboratory in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. His research specializations encompass parasites of farm animals, parasites of wildlife, parasite ecology, epidemiology of parasitoses, diagnosis, and control of parasites. He has conducted teaching activities in parasitology for students of veterinary, medical, agriculture, and science faculties. Schuster's contributions to the field are evidenced by 149 original publications in scientific journals, 26 book chapters and contributions, 76 posters, and 90 oral papers at scientific conferences and guest lectures. Additionally, he holds a position on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Camel Practice and Research (JCPR) - Camels and Camelids.
