Dr. Ron Grant is a part-time Senior Lecturer in the School of Rural Medicine at the University of New England, Faculty of Medicine and Health, a position held since 2013. He tutors medical students in Year 2, primarily in Problem Based Learning tutorials, having previously performed this role in 2008 and 2009 when the School of Rural Medicine was first established within the Joint Medical Program. Dr. Grant also teaches clinical skills to students in Years 1 and 2, with a focus on history taking and clinical examination to enhance the art of diagnosis. His teaching underscores the importance of these foundational skills in clinical practice.
A retired General Practitioner based in Armidale, Dr. Grant's clinical career is extensive. Following his graduation, he served as a hospital-based doctor from 1979 to 1986 and again from 1996 to 1998. He practiced general practice in Armidale from 1986 to 1995 and from 1998 to 2013. Between these periods, from 1995 to 1996, he worked with the Australian Antarctic Division at Davis Base, Antarctica. Dr. Grant holds an MBBS degree from the University of New South Wales, awarded in 1979, and a Diploma of the Royal Australian College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (DipRACOG) obtained in 1986. Over many years, he supervised medical students during their general practice attachments, including involvement with the Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) program and student placements from the Universities of Sydney, New South Wales, and Newcastle between 1998 and 2012. As a clinician-focused professional, Dr. Grant has dedicated his career to patient care and medical education without publishing book chapters or journal articles.
