Ronald Beebe, Ph.D., serves as Professor and Chair of the Department of Urban Education in the College of Public Service at the University of Houston-Downtown. He earned his Ph.D. from the University at Buffalo, State University of New York, and joined the university in 2008. Beebe holds office C440L and can be contacted at 713-221-8689. His academic career includes roles such as Assistant Professor and Associate Professor in the Department of Urban Education, as well as Director of the Center for Public Service and Community Research and Director of the Center for Public Service & Family Strengths. He has served as Faculty Senate President and is a member of the Retention and Graduation Taskforce Committee. Beebe is also an associate of the Center for Public Deliberation.
Beebe's research focuses on educational research and classroom-based research within urban education contexts. He teaches courses related to these areas and has presented on Classroom Assessment Techniques (CATs) as part of UHD's teaching and learning resources. His publications include 'Development of the Differentiation of Self and Role Inventory for Nurses (DISRIN),' co-authored with Noreen Frisch and published in Nursing Outlook in 2009, which introduces a tool to measure internal dimensions of workplace stress. Other works encompass 'Professional Development Schools (PDSs) and Social Justice: Defying the Status Quo or Reinforcing the Same?', where he examines PDS contributions to social justice; 'Life and Work Values of Counselor Trainees: A National Survey' in Counselor Education & Supervision (2011); contributions to 'Emerging Patterns in Transferring Assessment Practices from F2f to Online Environments'; and articles in the Journal of Family Strengths, such as 'Critical Issues: Defining and Debunking Misconceptions in Health Education' (2018) and 'Defining the Common Good in Terms of Capabilities.' Beebe received the Distinguished Faculty Award in 2023 for excellence in classroom, service, and creative activities, recognizing his impact on teaching, service, and scholarly contributions at UHD. He supports the Journal of Family Strengths through the College of Public Service.
