About Ronghong

Dr. Ronghong Huang is a Senior Lecturer in Finance at the UQ Business School, The University of Queensland. He obtained his Doctor of Philosophy from the same institution in 2017, with a doctoral thesis entitled 'Managerial Overconfidence and Corporate Finance Policies.' Huang's research centers on behavioral aspects of corporate finance, including CEO overconfidence, corporate debt maturity choices, investor overconfidence, stock price crash risk, corporate acquisitions, regulatory impacts on investments, and empirical asset pricing factors. His work examines how managerial traits and market uncertainties influence firm financial policies and stock performance, contributing to understandings of overconfidence biases in financial decision-making and their implications for corporate outcomes.

Huang has published extensively in leading finance and accounting journals. Key publications include 'CEO Initial Contract Duration and Corporate Acquisitions' in Organization Science (2024, with Guoli Chen, Shunji Mei, and Kelvin Jui Keng Tan), 'Investor overconfidence and stock price crash risk' in Journal of Accounting Literature (2025, with Hasibul Chowdhury, Khoa Hoang, Xiaowen Peng, and Suichen Xu), 'Resurrecting the market factor: a case of data mining across international markets' in Pacific-Basin Finance Journal (2023, with Khoa Hoang and Helen Truong), 'Missing the boat: regulatory approval delay and investment project outcomes' in The British Accounting Review (2023, with Qiaozhi Ye and Kelvin Jui Keng Tan), 'Economic uncertainty and cross section of stock returns: Australian evidence' in Pacific-Basin Finance Journal (2022, with Matthew Simkus, Helen Truong, and Khoa Hoang), 'Predicting stock returns with implied cost of capital: a partial least squares approach' in Journal of Financial Markets (2020, with Khoa Hoang, Damien Cannavan, and Xiaowen Peng), 'Is that factor just lucky? Australian evidence' in Pacific-Basin Finance Journal (2019, with Khoa Hoang, Damien Cannavan, and Clive Gaunt), and 'CEO overconfidence and corporate debt maturity' in Journal of Corporate Finance (2016, with Kelvin Jui Keng Tan and Robert W. Faff). These studies highlight his influence in behavioral corporate finance and asset pricing. Additionally, Huang supervises PhD students as principal or associate advisor on topics such as private equity, firm-level political risks, CEO compensation, and equity term structure effects, including the completed supervision of 'Three Essays on Contracting and Compensation' in 2023.
