Dr. Ronnie Soh is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Business at Curtin Singapore, part of Curtin University. He brings extensive industry experience, having worked approximately 20 years in the financial markets for institutions including American Express Bank, Chase Manhattan Bank, and Overseas Union Bank. Soh joined Curtin Singapore in 2010, following roles as an adjunct lecturer at the School of Business Management in Nanyang Polytechnic. In September 2022, he became the first academic staff member at Curtin Singapore to graduate with a PhD under the Curtin Offshore Postgraduate Research Scholarship (COPRS) program, completing it part-time over 6.5 years. His doctoral thesis, titled "The Impact of Blockholders on Firm Performance: Evidence from Singapore Listed Companies," investigated the relationships between diverse classes of blockholders and firm performance through quantitative analysis of data from Singapore-listed companies. The research process involved extensive reading of journal articles, manual data collection, and application of complex quantitative methods.
Soh's research interests focus on corporate governance and AI for finance. Notable publications include his 2019 conference paper "The Impact of Blockholders on Firm Performance: Evidence from Singapore Listed Companies," presented at the Global Chinese Accounting Summit, and a 2003 co-authored case study "Feasibility of Fuel Cell Business for Eastman Chemical." As an educator, he delivers courses such as FNCE3000 Corporate Finance, Introduction to Financial Instruments and Markets, and investment analysis at Curtin Singapore. Soh also serves on the Academic Board at Curtin Singapore, contributing to academic governance. His PhD achievement promotes research capability development among staff, with gained skills enhancing his lecturing role and commitment to staying current in his field.
