Ronny Noor is a Full Professor in the Department of Literatures and Cultural Studies at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV), where he has served since 1996, initially as faculty at the University of Texas at Brownsville/Texas Southmost College prior to the institutional merger. His academic credentials include a Ph.D. (1996) and M.A. (1989) from Oklahoma State University, along with an earlier M.A. (1986) from the Technical University of Berlin, Germany. As a dedicated educator in Literature, Noor teaches a variety of courses in the English curriculum, such as ENGL 3300 Introduction to English Studies, ENGL 3375 Introduction to English as a Second Language, ENGL 3362, and ENGL 4390 Senior English Capstone. He also holds the role of TExES Content Program Coordinator for English Literature & Cultural Studies at the Brownsville campus, supporting teacher certification and professional development in the field.
Noor's contributions to scholarship and creative writing are prominently featured in UTRGV's Studies in Rio Grande Valley Regional History Series through ScholarWorks@UTRGV. His published works include the poem 'Caged Dreams' and the essay 'The Good Samaritans of Escuelita de la Banqueta' in Recent Studies in Rio Grande Valley History; 'Chip Dameron's Rio Grande Valley: Center of a Narrowing Universe' in Fresh Studies in Rio Grande Valley History (2020); 'Patricia Cisneros Young: One of Our Own'; 'Narrowing Universe'; and additional pieces across volumes like More Studies in Rio Grande Valley History. These publications highlight his focus on poetry, regional cultural narratives, and historical essays tied to the Rio Grande Valley. Through his teaching, coordination efforts, and literary output, Noor has made a lasting impact on literature education and the documentation of local history at UTRGV, fostering appreciation for cultural studies among students and the academic community.
