About Ros

Associate Professor Ros Gall serves as Director of the Dookie Campus and Director of the Bachelor of Agriculture program within the School of Agriculture, Food and Ecosystem Sciences at the University of Melbourne. Her deep connection to agriculture stems from a family farming heritage in the Dookie area of Victoria's Goulburn River Valley, where her ancestors arrived in the 1870s via bullock train from Geelong to claim newly opened land. Six generations later, the family remains tied to the land, now encompassing the University of Melbourne's historic Dookie agricultural campus. With over 32 years at the Dookie Campus, Ros Gall has played a pivotal role in agricultural education, coordinating the Bachelor of Agriculture course and subjects such as Sustainable Food Systems. She coordinates academic activities that prepare students for the agricultural workforce, emphasizing interpersonal skills, industry engagement through guest speakers, and emerging technologies like precision agriculture and smart farming.

Ros Gall's expertise encompasses agribusiness, science and technology, and supply chain management. She has contributed scholarly work including 'Agricultural producer cooperatives as strategic alliances' and 'Value chain analysis – a capstone opportunity for postgraduate agribusiness education,' which support advanced learning in agribusiness industries. As Campus Director, she has facilitated high-profile visits, such as those by the Consul General of India and regional education commissioners, and supported initiatives like drought resilience hubs and career development in Australian agriculture. Her leadership promotes increased enrollment in agriculture degrees and addresses global challenges in sustainable food production. Previously recognized as director of agricultural programs, Ros Gall continues to foster pathways for students into agribusiness consulting, financial services, animal nutrition, and welfare.
