About Rosanne

Rosanne Taylor is Professor Emerita in the Sydney School of Veterinary Science at the University of Sydney. She earned her BVSc, Diploma in Veterinary Clinical Studies, PhD on the treatment of canine fucosidosis, and Graduate Certificate in Higher Education. Taylor's career began in rural mixed veterinary practice, followed by a large animal internship. She served as Animal Welfare Branch Manager, job-sharing, at the NSW Department of Agriculture during the implementation of Animal Research regulations. As Kleberg Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania, she trialled gene and stem cell therapies for neurological diseases. Returning to the University of Sydney, she taught animal bioscience and physiology and received two Vice-Chancellor's Awards for Teaching Excellence.

From 2009 to 2017, Taylor was Dean of the Sydney School of Veterinary Science, leading its centenary celebrations, improvements in research quality and rankings, expansion of clinical programs, and introduction of the postgraduate Bachelor of Veterinary Biology/Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program. She supervised over 60 honours and higher degree students on breed-related diseases in dogs and veterinary student learning. Her research specializations include lysosomal storage disorders and gene therapy in animal models, with key publications such as "Neural progenitor cell engraftment corrects lysosomal storage throughout the MRS VII mouse brain" (Nature, 1995), "Global gene and cell replacement strategies via stem cells" (Gene Therapy, 2002), and "Decreased lysosomal storage in the adult MPS VII mouse brain in the vicinity of grafts of retroviral vector-corrected fibroblasts secreting high levels of β-glucuronidase" (Nature Medicine, 1997). She has also contributed to veterinary education and clinical research on canine diseases. Taylor's influence extends to roles as Past Chair of Veterinary Schools of Australia and New Zealand, past AAVMC board member, current education consultant, co-chair of the AAVMC Competency Based Veterinary Education Advocacy Group, leader of the AVBC accreditation standards review, and co-chair of the AVBC Veterinary Schools Accreditation Advisory Committee.
