Dr. Roslyn Donnellan-Fernandez is a Senior Lecturer in Midwifery in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Griffith University, Logan Campus. She serves as the Director of the Postgraduate Primary Maternity Care Programs, teaching in both undergraduate and postgraduate midwifery curricula. With over 30 years of midwifery practice across public, private, and community settings, she has extensive experience as a clinician, educator, and mentor to midwives. Her academic qualifications include a PhD from Flinders University (2010-2016), Registered Midwife (RM), Registered Nurse (RN), International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), Master of Nursing Governance (MNg) in Women's Health, Graduate Certificate in Midwifery, and Bachelor of Nursing (BN).
Dr. Donnellan-Fernandez's research program focuses on maternity reform, health funding, and systems integration to improve access and equity in public maternity services. Her primary research areas encompass midwifery, primary maternity care, breastfeeding, perinatal mental health, and related health topics. Her scholarship has garnered 462 citations on Google Scholar. Key publications include co-editing Pharmacology in Midwifery (Elsevier, 2024); "Understanding attrition of early career midwives in Australia" (Donnelly, Lee, Donnellan-Fernandez et al., Women and Birth, 2024); "Women's experiences of online antenatal education: An interpretive descriptive study" (Whitworth, Fleet, Donnellan-Fernandez et al., Journal of Advanced Nursing, 2024); "Self-efficacy, support and sustainability – a qualitative study of the impact of clinical facilitation on the development of midwifery students’ competence as future caseload midwives" (James, Sweet, Donnellan-Fernandez, BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth, 2020); "Midwives' experiences providing postnatal sexual health support: A qualitative study" (Harris et al., Women and Birth, 2023); and the book chapter "Breastfeeding: Women's Experiences in the Transition to Motherhood" (McInnes and Donnellan-Fernandez, 2022). Through her leadership and contributions, she advances midwifery education, sustainable workforce practices, and equitable maternity care models.
