About Russell
Russell Poskitt is a Senior Lecturer in Finance in the Department of Accounting and Finance at the University of Western Australia Business School. He earned his PhD in Finance from the University of Auckland in 2001 with a thesis on inter-market linkages between the bank bill and bank bill futures markets in New Zealand. He also holds an MCom in Finance from the University of Canterbury in 1996, focusing on institutional investors, outside directors, and executive share option schemes; a Diploma in Banking Studies from Massey University in 1989; and a BSc (Hons) in Economics from the University of Canterbury in 1975. Before joining UWA in mid-2016 in a teaching-only role, he retired early in 2014 as Associate Professor of Finance from the University of Auckland after relocating to Perth for family reasons. His prior academic appointments include roles at the University of Canterbury (1994-2000), Unitec Institute of Technology (2001 and 2014), Christchurch College of Education (1991-1993), and Christchurch Polytechnic (1990), complemented by three years in commercial banking and one year in manufacturing.
Poskitt's research specializations span empirical finance, including modelling LIBOR lowballing, determinants of dividend reinvestment plan adoption and participation, commercial paper issue spreads, US dollar bond funding costs for banks, BKBM-LIBOR differentials, disclosure reform impacts on information environments, broker anonymity effects, price discovery in electronic foreign exchange and interest rate markets, ASX and NZX price queries, approved issuer levy influences on interest rates, convexity adjustments in futures and forwards, benchmark tipping, swap pricing, bid-ask spreads, and mining exploration stock trading. Notable publications include 'What drives issue spreads on commercial paper?: Evidence from New Zealand commercial paper tenders' (Pacific Accounting Review, 2013), 'What drives the cost of US dollar bond funding for banks?' (Pacific Basin Finance Journal, 2012), 'Do liquidity or credit effects explain the behavior of the BKBM-LIBOR differential?' (Pacific Basin Finance Journal, 2011), 'Modelling the lowballing of the LIBOR fixing' (International Review of Financial Analysis, forthcoming 2015), and 'The impact of disclosure reform on the NZX’s financial information environment' (Pacific Basin Finance Journal, 2009). He has received the Emerald Literati Network Highly Commended Awards in 2014, 2012, and 2009, the MED/RBNZ/Treasury Best Paper Award in New Zealand Capital Markets in 2012, and the SIRCA Research Prize in 2011.
