Rate My Professor Ruy de Deus

Professor Ruy de Deus e Mello Neto serves as a professor in the Department of Specialized Studies within the Faculty of Education at Universidade Federal do Ceará. He is also a permanent professor in the Professional Master’s Program in Public Policy Evaluation at the same institution. He earned his doctorate in education from the University of São Paulo in the line of State, society, and education, and completed a research internship at the Harvard Graduate School of Education in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. His doctoral thesis examined the impact of Brazilian policies for access to higher education among low-income students, with particular attention to the ProUni program.

His academic experience centers on education, emphasizing public education policies and the sociology of education. He held postdoctoral fellowships including the PNPD CAPES at the Fundação Joaquim Nabuco, a FAPESP postdoctoral position at the Faculty of Education of the University of São Paulo, and a FAPESP postdoctoral research internship abroad as a visiting scholar at Harvard, where he participated in the Comparative Inequality cluster at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs. Previously, he acted as a doctoral advisor and taught courses in the Postgraduate Program in Education at the University of São Paulo in the area of sociology of education. His research interests include inequality, sociology of education, affirmative action policies, and educational statistics.
