About S

Prof. S. Prabahar is a Professor of English and Head of the Department of English at Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, India. He currently serves as Dean of the Faculty of Indian and Other Languages, Chair of the School of Languages, and Director of the Center for International Affairs and Diaspora Studies. His academic qualifications comprise a Ph.D. from Manonmaniam Sundaranar University in 2005, M.A. in Journalism and Mass Communication from Madurai Kamaraj University in 1998, M.Phil. from Bharathidasan University in 1990, M.A. from Madurai Kamaraj University in 1989, and B.A. from Madurai Kamaraj University in 1987. Prof. Prabahar joined the university on 2 January 1991, prior to which he was Reader and Lecturer (Senior Scale) at S.T. Hindu College, Nagercoil.

With over 30 years of teaching and research experience, he has held key administrative positions such as Controller of Examinations from 2014 to 2018, Director of the Post Graduate Extension Centre, Nagercoil in 2014, Principal in-Charge of MSU College, Panakudi in 2012, Professor and Head of the Department of English from 2009 to 2012, and Deputy Controller of Examinations in 2009. He has also been Director of MSU Constituent Colleges since 2018 and Academic Counselor for IGNOU since 1998. Prof. Prabahar's research specializations are Cultural Studies and Indian English Literature. He has guided 32 M.Phil. scholars and 13 Ph.D. students to completion, with 5 Ph.D.s ongoing.

Among his notable publications are the books Nation, Nationhood and Nationalism: A Discourse on Early Indian English Literature (Emerald Publications, 2024), Local Color Literature (Shanlax Publications, 2023), Disability Studies Culture and Literature (MSU Press, 2010), Short Stories for Developing Proficiency in Communication (MSU Press, 2006), and One Act Plays for Communication (NCBH, 2016). Key articles include Praxis against Christian Ideals: Navigating Colonial Conflict in David Davidar’s The House of Blue Mangoes (Shodhkosh, 2024), History as Narrative: Intertextuality in Su Venkatesan’s The Bastion and J. H. Nelson’s The Political History of the Madura Country Ancient and Modern (Indian Literary Narratives, 2024), and Assertion of Negritude as Cultural Identity in Dalit Literature (2009).

He has been honored with the Academic Excellence Award from Manonmaniam Sundaranar University (2024) and Pondicherry University (2024), Academic Excellence Award from the Environmental Advisory for Sustainable Trust (2025), Humanitarian Excellence Award from the Magizhchi Foundation (2025), and Best Researcher Award from BIRDS (2022).
