Professor Sainey Faye serves as Professor of Sustainable Financial Governance at Buckinghamshire New University Business School within the College of Leadership and Innovation. He earned a BA (Hons) in Business Administration from the University of Wales, an MSc in Banking and Finance from Cass Business School (now Bayes Business School, City University of London), and a PhD from Plymouth University on the corporate regulation of the banking sector in The Gambia. With a career spanning over 20 years in UK higher education, he previously held positions as senior lecturer and programme leader at Kaplan Holborn College, managing franchised and validated programmes for universities such as the University of Wales, University of Huddersfield, and University of the West of England. At Buckinghamshire New University, as Deputy Head of School, Professor Faye oversees the academic partnership portfolio, postgraduate programmes, and apprenticeship initiatives. He has fostered stronger ties between university education and professional practice through collaborations with professional bodies including ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA, and IFA. Additionally, he has supervised numerous dissertations at undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels, and served as an external examiner at the University of Sunderland and Regents University London.
Professor Faye's research interests include finance, sustainable finance, corporate governance, Islamic finance, and the effectiveness of business education and professional practice from an international perspective. He has secured significant funding, such as a £150,000 Knowledge Transfer Partnership with a local charity to commercialise services and create sustainable revenue streams. As lead investigator for BNU, he partnered with GuildHE Research on a project to enhance access and participation for Black, Asian, and minority ethnic groups in postgraduate studies, funded by the Office for Students and Research England. His notable appointments encompass membership on the UK Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) Advisory Group for the review of Business and Management Subject Benchmark Statements in 2022, Academic Adviser to the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the United Kingdom in 2023, Editorial Board Member of the Journal of Legal, Ethical and Regulatory Issues in 2024, member of the Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA/CIMA) Board of Examiners since 2021, and reviewer for the International Science Partnerships Fund (ISPF). Professor Faye holds fellowships as Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA), Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute (FCMI), and Certified Management and Business Educator (CMBE), and is a member of the British Accounting and Finance Association (BAFA) and Black British Academics (BBA).
