Sam Hawarden serves as an Assistant Research Fellow in the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health (Dunedin) at the University of Otago. He is affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and the Dunedin School of Medicine within the Health Sciences Division. Hawarden is also a member of the Clinical Genetics Group at the University of Otago.
Hawarden co-authored the publication 'A second hotspot for pathogenic exon-skipping variants in CDC45' published in the European Journal of Human Genetics in 2024 (Schoch et al., volume 32, pages 786-794). He has contributed computational support to genetic research efforts at the University of Otago, including whole-exome analysis, linked-read genome sequencing assistance, and development of in-house scripts for genomic data alignment in projects such as those documented in theses and Genomics Aotearoa annual reports.
