About Sandra

Sandra Al-Tarawneh, B.D.S., M.S., FACP, is a Professor in the Department of Prosthodontics at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry, where she serves as the inaugural Director of the Graduate Prosthodontics Program launched in 2025. She earned her Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Jordan in 2004 and completed her Prosthodontics Certificate and Master of Science degree in Prosthodontics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2011. Following her residency training, Dr. Al-Tarawneh joined the faculty at VCU School of Dentistry, bringing expertise in advanced prosthodontic care and education. As a Fellow of the American College of Prosthodontists, she contributes to clinical practice, graduate training, and research in implant and digital prosthodontics.

Dr. Al-Tarawneh's research specializations include dental implants, fixed and removable prosthodontics, accuracy of intraoral scanners, manufacturing materials for implant prostheses, and soft tissue management in implantology. She has authored over 37 peer-reviewed publications, with more than 1,500 citations. Key works include "Accuracy of intraoral scanners for full-arch implant scanning in the Maxilla using horizontal scanbody" (PLoS One, 2025), "Influence of different manufacturing materials on the accuracy of complete-arch digital implant scans" (Journal of Prosthodontics, 2026), "Comparing Single Tooth Implant Placement With and Without Allogenic Soft Tissue Augmentation: A Randomized Clinical Trial" (2024), and "Are Nongrafting Solutions Viable for Dental Implant Treatment in Limited Bone Volume?" (Compendium of Continuing Education in Dentistry). In 2026, she received the prestigious William R. Laney Award from the Academy of Osseointegration for her contributions to implant dentistry research. Dr. Al-Tarawneh also serves on the editorial board of Digital Dentistry Connect, advancing the integration of digital technologies in prosthodontics education and practice.
