Sangeeta Khorana is Professor of International Trade Policy in the Department of Entrepreneurship, Finance and Economics at Aston Business School within the College of Business and Social Sciences at Aston University. She holds the endowed Chair of International Trade Policy awarded by the Institute of Export and International Trade. Khorana joined Aston Business School in July 2023 from Bournemouth University, having previously held positions at the Universities of Keele, Aberystwyth, St Gallen, and ETF-Zurich. A former Indian civil services officer, she worked with the government of India from 1993 to 2001 and served on secondment to the UK Department for Business and Trade to support trade negotiations. She earned her PhD in International Trade and Development from the University of St Gallen, Switzerland, in 2007, and an MA from the MILE Program at the World Trade Institute, Berne, in 2003. She also holds Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy status since 2020.
Her research specializes in trade governance and free trade agreement negotiations, inclusive and sustainable supply chains, and public procurement reform. Khorana has provided evidence to the UK, EU, and Scottish Parliaments as well as the Welsh Assembly, and contributed to capacity-building projects for trade officials in Vietnam, Canada, Bhutan, Thailand, and the UAE. She has completed projects for the European Commission, Inter-American Development Bank, World Bank, UK Economic and Social Research Council, Commonwealth Secretariat, and UNCTAD-India. Key publications include 'Mind the gap: gender equality and economic empowerment in the Commonwealth' (2026), 'Adapting to Disruptions in International Business' (2025), 'AI-Driven Competitive Advantage: The Role of Personality Traits and Organizational Culture in Key Account Management' (2025), 'Digital governance voids and entrepreneurial internationalization' (2025), and 'From Demand to Impact: Can Sustainable Banking Services Advance UN Sustainable Development Goals?' (2025). She edited 'Navigating Disruptions and Transformations in International Business' (2025). Khorana is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences (elected 2025) and recipient of the Inspiring Indian Women's Award (2025). She chairs the Academic Board of the Institute of Export and International Trade, serves as Trustee Director for several organizations, and is a member of the WTO Gender Hub and Expert Trade Advisory Group.
