About Sara

Sara Drabik, M.A., is a Professor and Program Head of the Media & Journalism program in the School of Media and Communication within the College of Informatics at Northern Kentucky University. She serves as Associate Professor of Electronic Media and Broadcasting, specializing in non-fiction storytelling as a documentary filmmaker. Her work has been featured by the University Film and Video Association, the Broadcast Education Association, National Public Radio, the University of Oxford Saïd Business School, and KET, the Kentucky PBS affiliate. These showcases demonstrate her impact in media production and storytelling.

Drabik's research includes a collaboration with the International Women’s Coffee Alliance on the “Women in Coffee Project,” which explores the changing roles of women in the international coffee industry and earned her the 2018 Spotlight on Scholarship (SOL) Award Runner-up at NKU. She teaches documentary film and media literacy courses, emphasizing transdisciplinary projects and study abroad programs. Drabik has led NKU students in media productions across Scotland, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and Guatemala, providing hands-on international experience. She co-authored the 2017 publication “Econ Beats: A Semester Long, Interdisciplinary, Project-Based Learning Assignment” with Abdullah Al-Bahrani, Bradley Libis, and John Gibson. Additionally, she participates in professional panels, including at Broadcast Education Association events and the 50th Anniversary Cineposium, contributing to media education discourse. Through her teaching, research, and leadership, Drabik advances media studies at NKU.
