Sarah Benwell is the Executive Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor at the University of Otago, where she delivers high-level confidential executive support and strategic advice. As the first point of contact for the Vice-Chancellor, she expertly manages appointments, meetings, email correspondence, and a comprehensive programme of events. Sarah is recognised for her exceptional organisational skills, ability to handle multiple complex tasks simultaneously, and encyclopaedic knowledge of coordinating well-supported events. Her extensive and diverse professional background spans administration, health care, and hospitality, enabling her to provide seamless support in dynamic university environments.
Prior to her current position, Sarah served as Business Support Coordinator for the Ageing Well National Science Challenge from May 2020 until early 2024, contributing vitally over four years with her commitment, skill, and institutional knowledge. In this role, she supported the challenge's operational development, drawing on her deep familiarity with Ageing Well initiatives. Earlier at the University of Otago, she provided executive support within the Division of Health Sciences, assisting the Dean of the School of Medicine and the Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry. She also held a finance position for several years at the Otago Museum Trust Board. Before entering university service, Sarah worked in the Operating Theatres at the Southern District Health Board. Based in Dunedin, she continues to play a pivotal role in the university's senior leadership operations.
