Sathira Abeysinghe is a Lecturer in Civil and Construction Engineering at Curtin University Colombo, within the Faculty of Engineering. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Civil Engineering from the University of Peradeniya (2016-2021) and a Master of Science in Engineering. Currently affiliated with both Curtin University Colombo and the University of Peradeniya, his academic career focuses on advancing civil engineering through teaching and research at the Sri Lanka campus of Curtin University, hosted at the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology.
Abeysinghe's research interests lie in geotechnical engineering, specializing in expansive soil stabilization with sustainable binders such as cement, lime, and fly ash, evaluating strength, swell, cost, and carbon footprint for optimized ground improvement. He conducts experimental and numerical studies on soil-gas diffusivity in variably saturated agricultural and pasture topsoils. His contributions extend to environmental engineering, developing parsimonious models for suspended sediment rapid assessment in mangrove restoration under data constraints, including frameworks for hydrological rehabilitation at sites like Anawilundawa, Sri Lanka. Key publications include 'A comparative assessment of geotechnical performance, cost and carbon footprint of expansive soil treated with cement, lime and fly ash' (Geomechanics and Geoengineering, 2025), 'Soil-gas diffusivity-based characterization of variably saturated agricultural topsoils' (Water, 2022), 'Strength, Swell, and Cost-Based Mix Optimization of Cement and Fly Ash-Treated Expansive Soils' (International Conference on Sustainable Built Environment, 2023), 'Optimal Model Complexity for Sediment Assessment in Mangrove Restoration: A One-Dimensional Framework Under Data Constraints' (2026), 'Hydrological Rehabilitation of Degraded Microtidal Mangrove Ecosystems under Data Constraints: a Parsimonious Suspended Sediment Rapid Assessment Framework at Anawilundawa, Sri Lanka' (2026), and 'Experimental and numerical study on soil-gas diffusivity in pasture topsoils' (Authorea Preprints, 2022). With six publications, his work has 15 citations and 356 reads on ResearchGate.
