Dr. Sathish Kumar Ramachandran is an environmental engineer with eight years of academic and research experience. He earned his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli in 2020, Master of Engineering in Environmental Engineering from Alagappa Chettiar Government College of Engineering and Technology, Karaikudi in 2011, and B.Tech in Biotechnology from P.R. Engineering College, Thanjavur in 2009. He also holds a Diploma in Industrial Safety from Annamalai University in 2011. His career includes serving as Research Scientist and Associate Professor (Research) at the Centre for Waste Management, Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology since 2023; Associate Professor in the Department of Biomaterials at Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences from 2021 to 2023; Senior Proposal Engineer at Eco Care Engineering Pvt. Ltd. from 2020 to 2021; Research Associate at the Department of Chemical Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli from 2013 to 2016; and Assistant Professor in Civil Engineering departments at Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Engineering College and M.N.S.K. College of Engineering in 2012-2013. He gained international exposure as an International Visiting Postdoctoral Scholar at Prince of Songkla University, Thailand from 2022 to 2023, and as a visiting student at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in 2015 and Konkuk University, South Korea in 2014.
Dr. Ramachandran's research focuses on fabrication of thin film membranes for ultrafiltration, nanofiltration, and reverse osmosis; water and wastewater treatment; polymer modifications; biopolymeric composites; and polymeric nanomaterial synthesis. He has contributed to funded projects including the DST-SYST scheme (INR 29,70,000), TNSCST Innovation and Project Development Scheme (INR 1,00,000), and IIT-Madras Carbon Zero Challenge grant (Rs. 5,00,000). He has authored 19 peer-reviewed journal articles and 5 book chapters, with notable publications such as 'Hydrothermal synthesis of spindle structure copper ferrite-graphene oxide nanocomposites' in Environmental Research (2023) and 'Synthesis of Bimetallic BiPO4/ZnO Nanocomposite' in International Journal of Molecular Sciences (2023). His achievements include the Hiyoshi Young Leaf Environmental Award (2024), INSA Visiting Scientist Award (2024), DST Young Scientist Award (2022, INR 26.5 lakhs grant), DST Project Research Associate Fellowship, and Best Oral Presentation Awards at STWTD-2020 and ICMHCEE-2019 conferences.
