About Sadegh
Sadegh Azizi is an Associate Professor in Smart Energy Systems at the University of Leeds within the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences. He earned a BSc in Electrical Power Engineering from K. N. Toosi University of Technology in 2007, an MSc in Electrical Power Engineering from Sharif University of Technology in 2010, and a PhD in Electrical Power Engineering from the University of Tehran in 2016. Before joining academia, he accumulated several years of industry experience conducting corporate research and consulting activities. He previously served as a senior researcher at the Iran University of Science and Technology and Tehran Polytechnic. From 2014 to 2015, he was a visiting researcher at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne. From June 2016 to January 2019, he was based at the University of Manchester where he led the protection work package of the EU H2020 MIGRATE project in collaboration with European Transmission System Operators. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. His research specializations include applications of wide-area monitoring, protection and control systems, power systems protection, and applications of power electronics in power systems. He also holds the position of Associate Editor of the International Journal of Electrical Power and Energy Systems.
Throughout his career, Sadegh Azizi has contributed to numerous research projects from inception through to the delivery of professional reports and publications in leading journals, often in collaboration with researchers from various international affiliations. At the University of Leeds, he is affiliated with the Institute of Communication and Power Networks and the Smart Energy Systems group. His work emphasizes practical applications in smart energy systems, drawing on extensive experience across academic, industrial, and international research settings. He teaches modules such as Individual Engineering Project and has been recognized for completing the PGCAP programme leading to Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy. His professional contributions continue to advance knowledge in electrical power engineering through editorial roles and collaborative projects.
