Scott Lanauze is the Senior Manager of Building Compliance at the University of Otago's Property Services division. He oversees regulatory compliance for Building Warrants of Fitness (BWoF), asbestos management, and fire and hazard processes across the university's three New Zealand campuses. This role involves managing one of the oldest educational property portfolios in the Southern Hemisphere, ensuring adherence to stringent safety and building standards for historic structures.
A Chartered Engineering Technician and Chartered Member of Engineering New Zealand, Lanauze retrained as a Civil Engineering Technician after completing a trade qualification in 2005. His professional experience spans transportation and building asset management, including fire engineering designs, evacuation scheme assessments, and Independent Qualified Person (IQP) certification. With two decades in the fire industry, he has contributed as a volunteer with Fire and Emergency New Zealand and serves as an AFAC-accredited Fire Investigator. Lanauze leads as President of the New Zealand Branch of the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE), holds Graduate IFE membership, and is a Fellow of the New Zealand Fire Brigades’ Institute. These accomplishments underscore his expertise in fire protection engineering and building compliance.
