Scott Richison is an Associate Professor in the Digital Broadcast Arts program within the Media Studies Department at Palomar College's San Marcos campus. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from the University of California, San Diego, and a Master of Arts in Educational Technology from San Diego State University. Since 2006, Richison has taught at the collegiate level, leveraging his substantial industry background in media production. Prior to focusing on academia, he produced hundreds of hours of television programming and several documentaries. For these accomplishments, he was awarded five Emmy Awards in five different categories and two Golden Mike Awards, demonstrating his expertise and impact in broadcast media.
At Palomar College, Richison has been instrumental in the success of the Digital Broadcast Arts program, which contributes to the Media Studies Department's reputation as a leading training ground for media professionals. In early 2026, he analyzed nominations and wins from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, revealing that 47 Palomar College students received Emmy nominations since 2022, with 35 securing awards—outpacing every other community college in the United States and all community colleges plus four-year universities in the Pacific Southwest region. Richison previously highlighted the department's 2022 Broadcast Education Association ranking among the top 100 U.S. media programs, affirming it as the top two-year program nationwide. He has described the Media Studies offerings as encompassing journalism, public relations, photography, communications, digital broadcast arts, cinema, and the award-winning student radio station KKSM, providing students with versatile, cost-effective preparation for the evolving media industry. Richison supports hands-on education through roles in Prep Sports Live, the Stream Team, the Tech Office, and teaching courses like Introduction to Video Editing and advanced broadcast production.
