Dr. Shabnam Kasra Kermanshahi is a Senior Lecturer specializing in cybersecurity at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Canberra, School of Systems & Computing. She earned her Ph.D. in Security Sciences, with a focus on Applied Cryptography, from Monash University, Melbourne, Australia. Her professional career includes serving as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at CSIRO's Data61, a Lecturer at RMIT University's School of Computing Technologies, and her current role as Senior Lecturer at UNSW Canberra. Dr. Kermanshahi maintains an active research profile, supervising PhD and Master's by Research students in areas such as applied cryptography and searchable encryption, with highly competitive scholarships available.
Dr. Kermanshahi's research interests encompass cryptography, cybersecurity, information privacy, automotive cybersecurity, blockchain, searchable encryption, secure content storage and delivery via blockchain technology, privacy implications of blockchain, cybersecurity in vehicular networks, data privacy in healthcare, and socio-technical aspects of securing machine learning systems. She has published extensively in top-tier venues including ESORICS, IEEE Transactions on Dependable and Secure Computing (TDSC), Information Sciences, ACM Computing Surveys, and INFOCOM. Her accolades include the Best Student Paper Award at ACISP 2017, Winner’s Award and People’s Choice Award in the Faculty of IT 3 Minute Thesis Competition at Monash University, Postgraduate Publication Award, nominee for Vice Chancellor’s and RMIT Research Awards, CSIRO Data61 research scholarship, Monash Graduate Scholarship, and Best Student Award with golden medal for her Master's degree. Dr. Kermanshahi is a Chief Investigator in the SELFY European consortium led by Eurecat (budget of 7 million Euros), served as Chief Investigator and Work Package Lead for Vietnam’s Industry 4.0 Opportunities for Australian Business project, and is Project Leader for identifying cybersecurity best practices in the marine renewable energy sector at the Oceania Cyber Security Centre.
