Shan Valiyara is the Senior Manager for Divisional Services and Administration at the University of Otago, Wellington campus, within the Division of Health Sciences. The position entails fostering the mission of the school through the provision of sound advice, strategic direction, and operational management of the school's shared services business development. His responsibilities include oversight of central services of the school, planning, project management, business development and planning, policy development, interpretation and advice, risk management, commercial business advice, planning and monitoring, and central services quality improvement. In previous roles, Shan Valiyara served as Lead Administrator supporting the Department of Psychological Medicine at the University of Otago, Wellington, where staff noted his support during annual reports in 2020 and 2021. He was listed as first aid trained staff in 2019. Shan Valiyara co-led the U-Owls social club team, which includes professional and academic staff and students, and won the Health, Safety and Well-Being Award (Team) at the University of Otago in 2020 for promoting mental and physical well-being through inclusive activities such as mushroom picking, dragon boat racing, weekend walks, yoga, crafts, poi making workshops, knitting, badminton, monthly catch-ups, SPCA animal visits, bake sales, and Pink Shirt Day events.
