Shane Parendo, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Economics and Analytics in the School of Business at Tiffin University, where he is part of the Business & Economics faculty. He earned both his Ph.D. and Master's degree in Physics from the University of California, Santa Barbara. After completing his Master's degree in Physics, Professor Parendo found his interests lay more in the area of economics and pursued his Ph.D. in economics at the same institution. His academic background uniquely bridges physics and economics, reflecting a transition from cosmological research to economic theory and behavioral analysis.
Parendo's research focuses on behavioral economics, personality influences on economic decisions, and market signaling mechanisms. Key publications include 'Competition and Personality in a Restaurant Entry Game,' co-authored with Theodore C. Bergstrom and Jon Sonstelie and published in 2016 in The B.E. Journal of Theoretical Economics, which explores whether personality traits measured by psychological tests predict success in competitive market entry scenarios modeled after restaurant competition. Another publication, 'Signaling Product Quality by Price,' co-authored with Cheng-Zhong Qin and appearing in 2012 in Frontiers of Economics in China, examines how pricing strategies convey information about product quality to consumers. Earlier contributions during his UCSB tenure include co-authorship on papers related to the Background Emission Anisotropy Scanning Telescope (BEAST), such as 'The Background Emission Anisotropy Scanning Telescope (BEAST) Instrument Description and Performances' published in 2005, detailing advancements in measuring cosmic microwave background radiation. At Tiffin University, Parendo serves as key personnel in outcomes assessment for business programs, including evaluations in ECO422 Finance, SMG405 Sports Management quantitative analysis, and other courses, contributing to curriculum improvement and accreditation efforts.
